Leighton Fold

The Leighton Fold has been a registered fold for a number of years now but only obtained its first cow from a dear friend in autumn 2008.

We had our first outing to the Royal Welsh Show 2010 which was eventful, and we came away with a rosette!

Robin Chilton judging highland cattleMy experience didn’t start then; I grew up with both beef and dairy stock, stock rearing being a tradition through more than one arm of the Chilton family. My passion for Highlanders began in the mid 1990s when I began working on a mixed farm with just a few Highlanders, over the next 15 years I grew the fold to number 150 winning a number of accolades under the name of my then employer including champion bull at the Royal Show.

This experience, enthusiasm and willingness to share my knowledge for the good of the breed, with anyone who cares to listen has given me the enormous privilege of becoming a Highland Cattle Society fieldsman, judge and I currently sit on the Breed Development Panel. In recent years I have judged at Oban, twice in Germany and was honoured with the opportunity to Judge the Royal Highland Show 2010 which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I now delight in spending any spare time I have, tending my growing fold, in the beautiful rolling Montgomeryshire countryside with help from my wife Jan and daughter Emily.
